Zero2Hero Chevron Compassionate Communities
Our Student Councillors and Peer Support Leaders have been selected to be involved in the zero2hero Chevron Compassionate Communities Program. This program consists of a series of workshops and activities that explore topics relevant to young people with the intention of accessing and cultivating compassionate systems and motivation. Compassion for oneself and for others is an increasingly vital emotional skill that can help us navigate some of the most difficult realities of being human. The program includes creating compassionate school communities, emotional regulation, improving self-talk & self-care, recognising struggle in friends, family & communities, and aligning decision-making to the personal value system. Students will design and present a compassion-based project at Harrisdale SHS in connection with the local community. We look forward to this project created by students for the community.

NAIDOC Week
Over the course of last week, Harrisdale SHS recognised NAIDOC Week, celebrating the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Students engaged face painting, yarn bracelet making, canvas hand paintings and the ‘Get Up, Stand Up, Show Up’ poster activities. On Wednesday, we welcomed the return of the Wesley College Moorditj Mob, who performed a cultural dance performance to our Year 8 Cohort. Our program continued onto Friday, where our Year 7-10 Cohorts participated in educational storytelling and yarning circle workshops through the day, led by Aboriginal Productions Company. Students learned about the significance of local Indigenous regions, culture and values, and the history of NAIDOC.
