Harrisdale Intercultural Learning Exchange

Harrisdale Intercultural Learning Exchange has been established with Mirambika Free Progress School New Delhi to provide students with the opportunity to exchange learning and understandings, as well as celebrate our human diversity, and enable us to communicate with better understandings across different cultures. This will be a feature of the Year 9 Extension curriculum as of 2022. Today students shared their poems, artwork and music as well as enjoying conversation about favourite films and food.

And that’s a wrap for this year’s debating!

On Friday, Harrisdale SHS’s debating teams took part in the last round of interschool debating for the semester. It was great to see how the students have developed their confidence and public speaking abilities over the course of this seasons competitions.
Round 5 Results are as follows:
𝘠𝘦𝘢𝘳 7 𝘸𝘪𝘯
𝘠𝘦𝘢𝘳 8 𝘸𝘪𝘯
𝘠𝘦𝘢𝘳 9 𝘥𝘦𝘧𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥
𝘠𝘦𝘢𝘳 10 𝘸𝘪𝘯
The day ended with Year 8 debating competition receiving a trophy for equal first place with John Curtin College, and Harrisdale placing second overall in the competition across Fremantle and Southern Districts for the course of the season.
These were fantastic results to which all the students who participated deserve a big congratulations on their hard work and dedication, which has certainly paid off!

Debating Club Round Four Results

On Friday, Harrisdale’s Debating Club competed in Round Four of their interschool debating competition. They won three of their four debates, with this round’s topics focusing on politics. Congratulations to our students for their spirited and capable performances. Perhaps among them are some of Australia’s future political leaders?

A Visit from Fremantle Literature Centre

This morning Natalya Hawrylak from the Fremantle Literature Centre conducted an interactive picture book workshop with a group of Year 7 students. Natalya captivated and inspired the students with an insight into the process behind creating picture books, then engaged them in analysing some Australian picture books including those of Shaun Tan, Mem Fox and Gary Crew.
