At Harrisdale Senior High School, we support students in finding pathways that reflect their interests, strengths, and personal goals. Whether they choose academic studies, vocational training, or general education, our diverse programs help each student pursue their own version of success. With personalised guidance and strong partnerships across education and industry, we empower students to make informed choices and confidently prepare for life beyond school.
ATAR Pathway (University Entrance)
For students aiming to pursue university studies, ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) courses provide a structured academic route. These courses are externally examined and form a key component of university admissions. It is recommended that students undertake a minimum of five ATAR courses in Year 11 and continue with the same five in Year 12.
In Year 12, ATAR courses are assessed using a combination of a college-submitted mark (based solely on Year 12 work) and an external examination. Each component contributes 50% to the final result.
General Pathway
General courses are suited to students who are not planning on entering university directly. These are assessed internally by the school, with one externally set task in Year 12 for moderation purposes by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA). These courses do not contribute to direct university entrance eligibility. Although some General courses are stand-alone, a two-year commitment is strongly recommended. Beginning a new course in Year 12 can be challenging without a Year 11 foundation.
Vocational Training Pathway
The Harrisdale Vocational Training Pathway (VTP) Program supports students aiming for TAFE, apprenticeships, employment, or alternative university entry. It partners with schools, industry, and training providers, allowing students to graduate while gaining workplace experience. Students attend school three days a week and spend two days in work placements or with specialised RTOs. All certificates are SCSA-accredited and count toward the WACE. Around 40 industry qualifications are available.
Benefits include TAFE course recognition, early career pathway access, practical workplace experience, and continued WACE point accumulation while exploring future career options.

Career Practitioner
Harrisdale Senior High School has a dedicated Career Practitioner, based in the Wellbeing Centre, who works closely with students to assist with career pathway planning, subject selection, and post-school options. This service provides personalised guidance to help navigate the sometimes tricky process of choosing career and study directions.
