Harrisdale SHS proudly presents a vibrant Specialist Music Program designed specifically for gifted young musicians. As a fully accredited Instrumental Music School Service (IMSS) School, our program is led by skilled specialists offering dedicated pathways in wind, strings, and voice.
Students receive personalised lessons, participate in ensemble groups, and perform across a wide range of styles, including classical, jazz, and contemporary music. This program not only nurtures musical talent but also inspires a lifelong passion for music, with clear progression opportunities into senior school.
At Harrisdale SHS, we are committed to supporting and developing students who have a deep passion for music. Our curriculum encourages students to cultivate a broad and diverse set of musical skills.
Through engaging classroom learning, students develop advanced skills in composition, arranging, music theory, aural training, and analysis—equipping them for senior school pathways, tertiary studies, and future careers in the music industry.
Tuition is offered on a variety of instruments, including vocals, woodwind instruments (flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone), brass instruments (trumpet, trombone, French horn, euphonium, tuba), classical guitar, orchestral percussion, and string instruments (violin, viola, cello).
All music students actively participate in bands or ensembles suited to their chosen instrument or voice. They also have the chance to take part in prestigious events and activities, including award-winning festival performances, collaborations with UWA and WAYJO, performances at elite venues including Government House Ballroom and Crown Perth, and immersive experiences like Music Camp and WASO concerts.
Entry into the program starts at Year 6, where prospective students apply through a formal process involving an online application and attendance at a specialised selection day where students may be auditioned and/or tested and interviewed. Students in Years 7 to 9 can also apply through interview and audition held at Harrisdale SHS.
