2022 National History Challenge State Presentations

November 3, 2022 by Victoria Rawlings

Over the weekend, a number of Harrisdale SHS students attended the 2022 National History Challenge State Presentations. Our Year 10 students Raina, Lufei, Elana and Shruthi completed the activity as part of their Humanities and Social Sciences Formative Assessment for History, creating a website on 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘺𝘸𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘍𝘪𝘭𝘮 𝘐𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘺 and were selected as the National Winners in the category of their year level, and are the only National Winners from WA in 2022!
Based on the NHC theme for 2022, 𝘊𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴, they took us on a journey of Bollywood. As a result, these four Harrisdale students are off to Canberra at the end of the month!
In addition to the success of the above students, we would also like to congratulate our other winners;
Year 7 student, Griffin Tojo, winner of the State Gold in the Year 7 category with his essay on the Causes and Consequences of the RMS Titanic. Along with the State Silver winners; Chris Gregory Babu (Year 7), Evan Johnson (Year 😎, Ronnel Sunogan (Year 9) in the Special Category of Indigenous History and Year 11 student, Layla Cochran in the Year 11/12 category.
Congratulations on being selected as the National Winners and to all our students who took part in the challenge!

Using donated resources and the help of volunteers, Uthando Project Inc. creates brown-skinned dolls to donate to the children in the community to help encourage and stimulate their social and emotional development. Our students are looking forward to contributing to such a heart-warming project!

The One Day of the Year by Alan Seymour

July 4, 2022 by Victoria Rawlings

Well done to the Year 12 Drama students, who have worked hard for the last term to put together their production of The One Day of the Year by Alan Seymour which they performed on Friday to students and families. The students worked beyond the role of the actor with designated roles in lighting, sound, set and props, costume, publicity, and front of the house to realise this drama work. The piece explores controversial topics of the celebrations around Anzac Day and how this recognises the lives lost.

The band is in full swing at Music Camp!

June 24, 2022 by Victoria Rawlings

We have been very blessed this morning to have a visit from Dr Paul De Cinque (Chair of Brass and Music Education) and Dr Alan Lourens (Head lecturer of Music) from the UWA Conservatorium of Music. Paul and Alan circulated through our rehearsals, stepping in to lead our wind ensembles, bestowing upon them some of his highly acclaimed knowledge and musical wisdom. Advice from industry specialists of such stature and high calibre is incredibly beneficial for our young musicians and the difference it made to their sound was instantly noticeable.
