Gifted and Talented School Tours

Parents and carers who are considering enrolling their child at Harrisdale SHS for the 2023 Gifted and Talented Program are invited to attend one of our School Tours to be held by our Principal Angie Thomas on the following dates:
  • Wednesday, 1 June 2022
  • Thursday, 2 June 2022
This tour welcomes parents/carers along with your child who has completed the Gifted and Talented testing process held in February 2022.
The 60-minute tour will start at 3.15 pm from the front of the school (outside reception) and conclude at 4.15 pm.

Exploring Physical Theatre

Last week, Mrs Spanbroeks Year 10 Drama students welcomed Ben Rogan from Black Swan Theatre into the classroom. On Friday, students participated in exercises exploring Physical Theatre, embodying different elements and characters, bringing scenes to life!

HSHS’s Gifted and Talented STEM program

Yesterday evening, Harrisdale SHS hosted the final event for the foundation class of the HSHS Gifted and Talented program.
Students had the opportunity to showcase their STEM projects for Semester 2 for parents and carers and celebrate their success. The students brought together some amazing group projects including sustainable inventions as part of their MARS in Schools Science competition where they created a biodome model with VR headsets, a digital journalism project in which the students created their own website, as well as a LEGO competition!

Harrisdale Intercultural Learning Exchange

Harrisdale Intercultural Learning Exchange has been established with Mirambika Free Progress School New Delhi to provide students with the opportunity to exchange learning and understandings, as well as celebrate our human diversity, and enable us to communicate with better understandings across different cultures. This will be a feature of the Year 9 Extension curriculum as of 2022. Today students shared their poems, artwork and music as well as enjoying conversation about favourite films and food.

2021 Visual Arts, Fashion Design, and Media Showcase

Harrisdale SHS’s campus stayed alive this evening, hosting the 2021 Visual Arts, Fashion Design, and Media Showcase.
A beautiful array of works were on display, including clay sculptures, paintings, short films, and a live runway of fashion pieces.
The night concluded with a presentation ceremony of the Acquisition Awards, rewarding students across various subject categories, which has been generously funded by Yaz Mubarakai (MLA).

Danza!

This afternoon our Year 9 and 10 Dance students has a taste of traditional Spanish dance in their classes today. Harrisdale SHS welcomed a visiting teacher, Farida Rabih from Casa Del Compás School of Spanish Dance, who taught the students a sequence to which they quickly picked up the rhythm for!

Wrapping up Year 8 Dance for 2021

This term our Year 8 Dance students have been putting together a dance piece during class. This week, they performed to their peers. The energy of the crowd was displayed by the support the students showed each other as they cheered during impressive high jumps and flips, showing off some moves they’ve learned this term – a positive way to wrap up Dance for the year!

FIRST LEGO League Challenge

On Saturday, our Year 7 Gifted and Talented students competed in the FIRST LEGO League Challenge. This is an international competition where students have to create an innovation project about a solution to improve transport, code a LEGO robot they designed to complete missions and demonstrate the core values of the competition throughout the day. This was the first time Harrisdale SHS competed and received the “Breakthrough Award” and also placed second in the “Innovation Project Award”.

HSHS’s Saxophone Ensemble visits Harrisdale Primary

We were honoured to be invited to attend Harrisdale Primary School and have a small group perform a couple of pieces in their concert. Our Harrisdale SHS Saxophone Ensemble had a fantastic time on stage, and we really enjoyed watching the young, upcoming musical stars perform their pieces. We look forward to having many of you join us as Harrisdale SHS Music students in the coming years!

Upcoming Visual Arts, Fashion Design and Media Showcase.

After the two awesome Performing Arts, Dance and Music showcases last week, things have been full steam ahead within The Arts department in preparation for the upcoming Visual Arts, Fashion Design and Media Showcase. This is the final showcase for the Arts Department, we look forward to exhibiting the artworks, fashion items and Media creations by our very talented students right across Year 7 through to Year 11. Hope to see you there for what is going to be a fun-packed evening!
