Last week, Mrs Spanbroeks Year 10 Drama students welcomed Ben Rogan from Black Swan Theatre into the classroom. On Friday, students participated in exercises exploring Physical Theatre, embodying different elements and characters, bringing scenes to life!
This term our Year 8 Dance students have been putting together a dance piece during class. This week, they performed to their peers. The energy of the crowd was displayed by the support the students showed each other as they cheered during impressive high jumps and flips, showing off some moves they’ve learned this term – a positive way to wrap up Dance for the year!
On Saturday, our Year 7 Gifted and Talented students competed in the FIRST LEGO League Challenge. This is an international competition where students have to create an innovation project about a solution to improve transport, code a LEGO robot they designed to complete missions and demonstrate the core values of the competition throughout the day. This was the first time Harrisdale SHS competed and received the “Breakthrough Award” and also placed second in the “Innovation Project Award”.
We were honoured to be invited to attend Harrisdale Primary School and have a small group perform a couple of pieces in their concert. Our Harrisdale SHS Saxophone Ensemble had a fantastic time on stage, and we really enjoyed watching the young, upcoming musical stars perform their pieces. We look forward to having many of you join us as Harrisdale SHS Music students in the coming years!
After the two awesome Performing Arts, Dance and Music showcases last week, things have been full steam ahead within The Arts department in preparation for the upcoming Visual Arts, Fashion Design and Media Showcase. This is the final showcase for the Arts Department, we look forward to exhibiting the artworks, fashion items and Media creations by our very talented students right across Year 7 through to Year 11.
