Children Family Community class contributes to a good cause!

July 19, 2022 by claire

Today our Year 11 Children Family Community General class is joined by Ann Viivers from Uthando Project Inc. Uthando Project Inc is a charity project dedicated to the children of Hlabisa District of KwaZulu Natal, whose lives have been severely impacted by the HIV/AIDS pandemic sweeping South Africa. Using donated resources and the help of volunteers, Uthando Project Inc. creates brown-skinned dolls to donate to the children in the community to help encourage and stimulate their social and emotional development. Our students are looking forward to contributing to such a heart-warming project!

The One Day of the Year by Alan Seymour

July 4, 2022 by claire

Well done to the Year 12 Drama students, who have worked hard for the last term to put together their production of The One Day of the Year by Alan Seymour which they performed on Friday to students and families. The students worked beyond the role of the actor with designated roles in lighting, sound, set and props, costume, publicity, and front of the house to realise this drama work. The piece explores controversial topics of the celebrations around Anzac Day and how this recognises the lives lost.

June 24, 2022 by claire

We have been very blessed this morning to have a visit from Dr Paul De Cinque (Chair of Brass and Music Education) and Dr Alan Lourens (Head lecturer of Music) from the UWA Conservatorium of Music. Paul and Alan circulated through our rehearsals, stepping in to lead our wind ensembles, bestowing upon them some of his highly acclaimed knowledge and musical wisdom. Advice from industry specialists of such stature and high calibre is incredibly beneficial for our young musicians and the difference it made to their sound was instantly noticeable.

Harrisdale SHS’s campus stayed alive this evening, hosting the 2021 Visual Arts, Fashion Design, and Media Showcase.
A beautiful array of works were on display, including clay sculptures, paintings, short films, and a live runway of fashion pieces.
The night concluded with a presentation ceremony of the Acquisition Awards, rewarding students across various subject categories, which has been generously funded by Yaz Mubarakai (MLA).
We look forward to sharing more about our student’s works in our upcoming school Newsletter.
